Q. I have been caught drink driving. If I am disqualified I will lose my job. Does the court have any discretion to allow me to drive and for example pay a larger fine?

A. The court cannot increase a fine in order not to disqualify. The court has very a limited discretion not to disqualify if special reasons apply. See our section on special reasons for more details.

Q. I have been convicted of drink driving. When I went to court I was offered the chance of attending a course to reduce the length of my ban. Do I have to attend?

A. The offer of the course is at the discretion of the court. If you are offered the course you do not have to attend. However, if you do not attend you will no be entitled to the reduced period of disqualification.
