The Road Traffic (New Drivers) Act 1995 made significant changes to the laws relating to new drivers. People who pass their driving tests are now placed on a probationary period of two years. This commences on the date that the driving test is passed. If a person then appears before a Court and the number of penalty points to be taken into consideration total six or more then the Court will notify DVLA who will then send out a letter revoking the driving licence. This will mean that the person affected will need to apply for a provisional driving licence and start all over again. It is worth noting that this applies to all driver regardless of age. However, it is obviously aimed at trying to control the actions of younger drivers who are shown by accident figures to be far more likely to be involved in accidents shortly after passing their driving tests.
